Cultural activities

Beyond simple contemplation, the stance and educational take developed at the musée Niépce aim to reveal the multiple facets of this complex medium. The museum, through its expertise, its critical eye on the history of the medium and its involvement in current work, enables one to explore the « photographic », from the gesture to the result, the man to the machine, the production to the display, the origins to the contemporaneousness of images.

Questioning one’s relationship to photography, the history and the current state of the image

An active and participative approach enables one to discover the collections and exhibitions in groups or individually :
- Guided tours are available every day but must be booked in advance through the Public relations department. A programme of the themed guided tours for the public is available in our « Agenda » section.
- Workshops for younger visitors enable them to discover, approach and understand an aspect of photography through reading images, handling material and taking shots.
- Regular events with photographers and artists keep visitors in permanent contact with the artists working today. The programme for these encounters, conferences, screenings, is available in the « Agenda » section.

National events such as the « Journées Européennes du Patrimoine » and the « Nuit des musées » invite visitors to see the museum from another angle. Enjoy collections on show exceptionally, demonstrations of skills, and take part in the numerous events available.

By reaching out to the public, the musée Nicéphore Niépce also develops projects outside the museum. Built around showing the collections and/or photography practice, they can take on innovative forms. Impromptu urban interventions bring another angle to current affairs, in the atypical way the collections are shown.
